Do you need a last minute birthday gift for mom, but you don’t want something generic? Perhaps you just want to show her you care. Or, do you just need to relax this weekend? This DIY Sea Salt Foot Soak is your answer!
If there’s one woman who deserves some pampering, it’s mom! Motherhood is a non-stop job, and more often than not, it’s a pretty thankless job. In an ideal world, we’d be able to send our moms to the dead sea, for a levitating, mineral-enriched soak in its famous waters. In the real world?
How about a kind gesture and a homemade Sea Salt Foot Soak? If you’re lucky enough to live near your mom, spend the day together pampering yourselves and apologizing for all those annoying things you did as a kid (Ie: “MOOOOM, I only eat PB&J sandwiches when they are cut on a DIAGONAL!”).
The specific salts in this Sea Salt Foot Soak are important for their mineral contents and restorative powers, so don’t make substitutions. When it comes to sourcing the ingredients for this Sea Salt Foot Soak, I recommend visiting your local co-op. The bulk bin sections make buying smaller quantities a breeze, but you if you don’t have a coop, you can usually find these ingredients at Home Goods, TJ Maxx and the like.
Dead Sea Salt
Dead Sea Salt replenishes the body with minerals like magnesium, calcium, sulfur, bromide, iodine, sodium, zinc and potassium, which help to relax the body, ease tense muscles and soften the skin. Dead sea salt also acts as a detoxifying agent.
Pink Himalayan Sea Salt
These pretty pink salt crystals are known to eliminate toxins and balance the body’s pH. Soaking in Pink Himalayan Sea Salt can increase circulation and reduce inflammation. Plus, pink sea salt boasts a lot of nutrition benefits too, so buy some extra and throw some in your salt shaker too.
Chamomile & Rose
Just as drinking a mug of chamomile tea in the evening can help you wind down and relax, soaking your feet in a chamomile infusion can push you one step closer to a state of zen. Rose adds a delicate scent to the soak, and if you’re giving this Sea Salt Soak as a mother’s day gift, doesn’t mom deserve flowers in some form?
Chamomile Rose Sea Salt Soak
1/4 cup Pink Himalayan Sea Salt
1/8 cup Dead Sea Salt
1 teaspoon dried rose petals
1 teaspoon dried chamomile flowers
Mix everything in a jar, and give the gift of R&R! To use: add a Tablespoon or two to a foot bath. If any irritation occurs, discontinue use.
Once you’ve enjoyed this starter formula, you can start to experiment by increasing the quantity, adding essential oils or other dried flowers like lavender.
